Summer Ready: Nutrition & Health

Hello Again! The last time we saw how bold prints this season made a big statement. In continuation to the advent of Summer– May month being the hottest in India, temperatures soar to 40 plus degrees across the land. In order to keep our body healthy and hydrated, I have listed down 2  “Must-Do’s” for this season.

 

1.Keep Yourself Well Hydrated

I cannot stress this more than having to keep this point as number 1 on my count down. The importance of water and water based liquids is an essential. I always remember to carry a bottle of Water around with me. I have seen some people being embarrassed to carry one, you can always use a back pack, a sling bag, or the good old handbag to store one. Apart from water you can also depend on Fruit juice, Buttermilk, Coconut water, Cane juice, Lemonade.

2.Having a proper Diet

Because this is the summer season, the same food/diet that you consume on a daily basis will not work during this season. The reason being that you perspire a lot and your body is constantly losing water. The body is primarily 70 % water. Prefer more Cut Fruits and fresh vegetables, as an alternative to Spicy food or Junk food. I personally love going for a good Fruit Bowl for my Breakfast. All the essential fruits and vitamins packed in one go!

To help you get through this season, I’ve shared a couple of simple and easy to do recipes that are good for your body and are nutritious.

Watermelon Lemonade

Ingredients:

*6 cups of cubed seedless watermelon, chilled

*4 cups of Cold water

*3/4 cup strained lemon juice, chilled

*2/3 cup granulated sugar

*Ice and Fresh mint for Serving

Directions:

*Add the Lemon juice to the Cold water and stir well

*Mix in the sugar along with this and stir well

*Now add the cubed watermelons.

*Add Ice Cubes and top off with a mint leaf

Watermelon Lemonade

Summer Corn Salad

Ingredients

*6 corn ears

*3 large tomatoes

*1 large Onion diced

*1/4 cup olive oil

*2 tablespoons White Vinegar

*Salt & Pepper

Directions

*Bring a pot of lightly salted water to boil and add the corn ears to them. Cook in boiling water for 7-10 minutes. Drain, Cool and cut the corn kernels

*In a large bowl, toss together the corn, tomatoes, onion, olive oil , vinegar, salt and pepper.

*Chill before serving

Moving on from Nutrition we now see how your health can be benefited better by following some simple regimes in our daily life.

*Healthy Skin and Body

With the intense heat wave it is easy to lose the moisture in our skin and so we need to take extra care of our skin. The Shea Butter Soap from Body shop will help retain moisture. Shea butter as an ingredient will help make it smooth:

*Hygiene

It’s important to be high on hygiene as we can contract diseases from various sources. Always keep Wet tissues handy and a Sanitizer.

*Heat Strokes & Prevention

A heat stroke is a condition wherein the body experiences fatigue, unconsciousness. Also symptoms of Fever. The best way to avoid a stroke is by wearing comfortable clothes – prefer going for Cotton materials; Apply SPF regularly; Try not to step out at the hottest part of the day, even if it is unavoidable make sure you wear adequate clothing and take medication.
